Rambutan is a fruit that is commonly available in Kerala these days and it is a favourite among the young and old alike. Several celebrities too love the fruit and noted singer Manjari is among them. Manjari recently shared a video explaining the benefits of eating rambutan and also how the fruit got its name.
Manjari’s video begins with the comment that she would be introducing a special fruit. In contrast to the frequently-seen red variety of rambutan in Kerala, Manjari holds a yellow-coloured bunch of the fruit in her video.
Rambutan is referred to as the princess among fruits and the food of Gods. It is rich in nutrients. Apart from being consumed as a fruit, rambutan could be pickled too.
Revealing how the fruit received its name, Manjari says ‘rambut’ is an Indonesian word which means hair or fur.
The fruit has a hairy outer covering, points out the singer.
“Rambutan has good amounts of Vitamin C, minerals and antioxidants. Eating it will improve your health,” says Manjari. It could prevent illnesses such as fever and cold. Rambutan also has the ability to maintain healthy skin and remove toxicities in the body.
The celebrity has shared the video with the caption, ‘Raise your hand if you love rambutan’. Rambutan is harvested from May to August.
