Onions, shallots, ginger, garlic, tomato and green chillies are some of the common ingredients that are used in Indian dishes. These aromatics and vegetables are usually peeled before they are added in the dishes.
However, not many know that flavoursome powder could be made using the peels of onion and garlic. Besides adding incredible flavour and aroma to the dish, it adds to the nutritional value too.
Recently, noted content creator Alessandro Vitale had shared a video in which this powder is made. The video instantly grabbed attention and amassed millions of views within a short period of time. He had titled the viral video as ‘Zero Wastage Veggie Skin’.
Interestingly, you do not need too many ingredients to make this powder. Moreover, it could be easily made at home.
In order to make this powder, peel the onion and garlic skin and wash them well. Spread them on a piece of cloth. Transfer the cleaned peels on to a baking tray; wrap these using a butter paper if required. Keep this in the microwave over and cook for at least five minutes on 160 degrees.
The water content in the peels should be completely gone. Transfer the baked peels in to mixer jar. Grind them into fine powder.
You could also add salt, pepper powder, paprika or chili powder in the powder. Store the peel powder in an air tight container. This powder is loaded with antioxidants. Besides adding oodles of flavour, this powder is excellent to reduce inflammation and improves heart health. However, those who have health issues should consume this only after consulting with your physician.
